GTA 6 Is Now 'Downloadable' on Xbox — But It's Just a 328 MB Placeholder

If your Xbox suddenly lets you “install” Grand Theft Auto VI, don’t get too excited — it’s real, but it’s not the game. The GTA 6 Xbox Store page is now live with a wishlist button and an install option that downloads a tiny 328 MB placeholder file.

What actually happens

• You can add GTA 6 to your Xbox wishlist, and download the ~328 MB placeholder to your Series X|S (or via the Xbox app on PC, if your console is linked).
• Once “installed,” the GTA 6 icon appears on your dashboard — but the Play button doesn’t work. Launching it just flashes the artwork for a second, then closes.
• It contains no gameplay and no real files. It’s essentially a bookmark.

Why Rockstar does this

The placeholder reserves a spot in your library and lays the groundwork for the real pre-load closer to launch. When the full digital pre-load opens (expected around November 12, a week before the November 19 release), this entry is what fills in with the actual game data.
