Two Retailers Say They Won't Sell GTA 6 Over the No-Disc Decision

Rockstar has confirmed that physical GTA 6 copies at launch are a download code in a box, not a disc (see our price & editions guide). Two retailers are now pushing back on that decision publicly.

Who’s refusing, and what they said

• Video Games Plus (VGP), a North American retailer of 30+ years, posted: “our company policy is that we do not carry physical products for video game consoles that contain only a digital download code.” VGP says it would reconsider if Rockstar released an edition with an actual disc.
• Loot Box Gaming (LBG) said: “we will not be supporting the release of GTA 6” without a disc, citing its commitment to physical media preservation.

Both statements were posted on X on June 24, 2026, as reported by Kotaku.

Important context

This is retailer reaction, not a Rockstar or Take-Two statement — it doesn’t change pricing, availability everywhere else, or the November 19 release date. Most major retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, GameStop) are still taking pre-orders as normal. Notably, Rockstar Support has separately indicated a real disc is coming later, which may address some of this backlash.
